If i was the guy planning the mission i would assume he had the best security he could get. And maybe he did his wifes and one dumb rump. My point is i would want my best shooter without exception wouldnt you?

Chuck Norris WAS in fact the special ops team...

Chuck Norris surrounded the three escape routes of Bin Laden's hideout (by himself), then spoke flawless Arabic to lure a guard out. When the guard came out, Chuck simply told him to retrieve the rest of the guards inside at once so he could save time.

After killing the guards by crushing them with the full size fridge that Chuck Norris had in his rucksack...he simply looked through the window at Bin Laden who was cowering inside.

Bin Laden suffered four simultaneous heart attacks before having the fatal brain aneurysm at the sight of Chuck Norris.

Upon exfil Chuck knew he had room in his ruck for either the classified blackhawk tail rotor or UBLs impressive porn stash, but not both. After conferring briefly with his mustache the correct choice was made...

If I were looking for the best shooter, I would have left Chuck behind and gone for Angelina Jolie. Who else can shoot and have the bullet go in a complete circle???

And if I couldn't have gotten Angelina's bullet-trajectory-bending prowess, I would have gone with Jude Law...er...I mean Vasili Zaitsev...

Or regular Army Infantry

or National Guard

the raid doesn't seem to have been any complex op, it was the years of tracking him down that took work

The National Guard has a significant proportion of the Army's Infantry, including two Special Forces Groups.

reserve doesn't compare to active in any branch, IMO. no disrespect intended, and not looking to start inter-service/branch/status rivalry but the active guys train to it 24/7...with experience comes proficiency

Personally, I think all talents/abilities aside-it had to have been people that could KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT. So, that leaves any number of elite forces or some type of combined effort. However, I do know the Dos Equis guy was involved in the recon-then he flew home for breakfast.

This should make logical sense right? But unfortunately that's not always the case. I've seen reserve/guard units absolutely embarrass their active counterparts in joint exercises. It comes down to quality of leadership and motivation, and you have good and bad in both components.

granted, as a lot of reserve leadership are actually active augments (I&I in the Corps, don't know what the Army calls them)

as for keeping mouths shut, I think that could apply to anyone eligible for the proper clearance. We have members here who were at the Pentagon, etc. Don't think they put you there if you can't keep mum. Any straight-living American has the potential to keep his mouth shut and receive top-secret clearance...don't think they hand it out without that ability

Not to side-track the conversation, but in my experience with Reserves and as an involuntary member of I&I active duty staff with a reserve unit, and my time on active duty at major USMC installations and forward deployed, my viewpoint is that the reserve Marines are on average more highly-motivated and more adaptable than Active Duty full-time troops, especially infantry. Just my observations. Maybe the active duty guys I worked with were sick of doing the same thing all the time, or figured they didn't have to train or work as hard because they did it every day. Not sure, but on I&I duty, it was most definitely a welcome change when the reserve Marines came in, ready and willing to train on weekends and AT.

My experience is only at the senior-junior enlisted level, and can't speak for SNCOs and officers except to say that the opposite seemed to be true for officers, until they were activated and deployed.

Just figured i would ask you guys what you think was it Seal team 6 or the Delta boys doing the shooting. I saw a reporter admit the D-boys were with the Seal team but it could not be confirmed. If i was in change of a mission with that big of HVT i would want them with me. Also seems like the nite stalkers with top secret stealth blackhawks would be for are best guys. No offence to the Seals but you know what i mean they are the best we have rite? So who do you think was behind the trigger and how long before one rites a book?

Far too much info given out. I saw the reporter who commented on DELTA's involvement. He was speculating. Sorry but this was a DEVGRU/NIGHT STALKER effort.

Brig you aren't taking into account many NG/ Reserve components (save for combat arms in some cases) most do their military job in the civilian world too. Im a civilian cop, and in the Military I was an MP (just ETS'd! Woo!), when I used to be a signal corpsman almost everyone in my Psyops unit worked in the civilian Telecomm sector. In fact our unit was asked for more often to support Active components because of our level of proficiency and professionalism. Ask me about how we made a 1 star general cry one time.

As for the whole DEVGRU/ DELTA thing, who cares? we will not know the truth of who was there and who wasn't until we are all dead and gone. As far as we know it was a Night Stalker and DEVGRU operation. Could Delta have been there? Maybe in a support role in case ST6 got in trouble, is it really worth arguin over?

Of course they work with Delta, but they would also work with DEVGRU since they are both under JSOC

Agreed.

I believe SEAL76 wasnt sayng that Delta and the 160th dont work together.Just that the reporter was speculating(which a lot of that was done in the news trying to make a story out of limited facts at the time) on Deltas involvement on the BL mission.

I know two people personally who had served with the 160th and they flew all types of Operators.

If Delta was in on it they for sure wont tell the news guys thats not there style. My point is that they are the best operators we have not the seals. And since this was as big of a mission as you could ask for they would have used the best they have and that is the Delta guys. Unless something has changed the goverment wont confirm or deny that Delta even exist. I know for a fact that the best operators we have all want to end up with the Delta guys. So again why would we not send the best we have to go get the most wanted man in the world. If they didnt use the d-boys they wasted a great asset what are they for but missions like this. When it all comes out in the next few years we will know for sure but my money is on the d-boys.

Look what branch the JSOC commander and Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff are from, that should answer your question.

Why all this effort to prove Delta got Bin Laden and not Seals? DEVGRU/ SEALs are every bit as good and well trained and capable of doing this type operation.
