dartheric1 Posted May 15, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2011 Evening gents, im requesting pics of shelters halfs in use during WWII, M1910s, M1942s, but most importantly the M1945 or what most know it as, the snap button shelter half. ive read that they were given the QM designation of M1945 and that they were used in the later half of the okinawa campaign. I had pics in my old hard drive, of what i was able to make out as these snap button tents, although my eyes could have been playing tricks on me, but as foxhole liners and makeshift shelters tack buttons dont exactly look like dura snaps. Please help me out her, much thanks, Eric

I have 1953 dated Army halves with the buttons and a 1961 dated half with the snaps. I've never heard the M1945 designation. I believe the double ended half was simply referred to as the "New Type". craig_pickrall Posted May 17, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 17, 2011 This is the supporting info for what Keystone said. Be sure to see in the 4th photo the old style is noted as being buttoned and in the 7th photo the new style is noted as being buttoned.

Hmm, very interesting  new info to me, Only reason i posted this is because thats the info ive seen, but im going along with yours rather, Again, could have been a field repair maybe or the pics are just deceiving and make them look like snaps rather then tack buttons, which is most likely the result from cameras of the time, well thanks anyway
