BEAST Posted January 8, 2015 Share #53 Posted January 8, 2015 Here is a 505th background trim that I recently picked up and I would appreciate the group's opinion. When I first saw the back, I thought it might be a repop, but the backing material looks very similar to a couple of my English made SSIs, but I still haven't seen that backing on any of the good examples of 505th PIR ovals that have been posted here. With all that being said, here it is and let me know your thoughts! BTW, the colors, especially the blue, appear darker in hand
Persian Gulf Command Posted January 8, 2015 Share #54 Posted January 8, 2015 Before I even ask the questions, I am preparing myself for a "Not really" response from the forum members, but I am going to ask it anyway. Is there a way to establish the date either early, mid, late WW2 by knowing the manufacturer US, British, or in the field by the shape (elliptical, race track) or by the oval's material used (Felt,Twill)? And, how can you be sure that an oval was manufactured during WW2 or in the years just after May 1945 during the occupation period? Thanks in advance for any information that will answer these questions!
