Sigfest Posted April 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2011 I'm not really sure what these were called. My Mom gave them to me as she's had them for many years. They are in great shape. There is a hankerchief inside the pocket that is flag-like. Vey thin and dainty. Beautifully done. Any info on these would be appreciated. My first time trying to post pics, be gentle. siege1863 Posted April 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2011 I have seen references to these being used to hold letters received from soldiers/sailors writing to home. I seem to recall one being sold on ebay that still had some letters inside.
RustyCanteen Posted April 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2011 I believe that is what they were for.
Clayton Posted April 22, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 22, 2011 Hello: These are made primarily of genuine silk, one of the most fragile of all antique fabrics. They are in very fine condition.
Sigfest Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted April 23, 2011 Now that you mention it, Silk makes sense. The inner hankerchief is especially very fine. Thanks for the info. Are these fairly rare? Is there a website for reference?
