It probably stands for Battery 1, New York Regiment. #30 is probably an inventory number or the soldiers individual number in the company/regiment.

 

With a little research into NY units of the 1900-1907 period you could probably identify the exact unit.

 

The "??K" is most likely "H.E.K." the inspector's initials.
