penobscottrader Posted April 9, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2011 Got this today at a local gun show, but I have never seen this patch before hence my question. Its embroidered on felt. Its on a typical WWII Ike jacket w/ a AAF patch for the current unit. What is it, and is it worth anything? Is it worth more to cut the patch off the jacket and sell it separately? The jacket is actually in great condition w / no mothing. I usually get $20 at most for Ike jackets on eBay. Sorry for my dumb questions I dont collect 20th c. stuff I just sell what I find antique picking lol. Thanks!
Cobrahistorian Posted April 9, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2011 US Strategic & Tactical Air Forces patch. Not overly valuable, but it isn't as common as the numbered air force patches. It looks like you've got a nice named jacket there, so I'd leave it on there. With the name, patches and chevrons on it, it is considerably more valuable than the patch alone. EDIT: I'll also add that the embroidered on felt variant is more scarce than the fully embroidered, so you've got a nice variant there too. KurtA Posted April 9, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 9, 2011 It's a nice jacket that should be kept that way. Cutting the patch off would be an egregious act of "historicide." Kurt
penobscottrader Posted April 10, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted April 10, 2011 Thanks for the info! What would be ball park retail value of it, $65 or so?? I'll stick it eventually over in the for sale section rather then let eBay get 14% or so of it.
