Fritz Posted March 31, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 31, 2011 Well. I don't normally get into Vietnam stuff but a gentleman that I have gotten to know from selling a couple WW2 rifles that his dad brought home was an officer during Vietnam and was in the 101st Airborne 1/502nd Recon and was also a liason officer for the 101 and Vietnamese. This is one nice beret and I really feel honored that he offered it to me for my collection, these things always have more meaning to them when you get them from the vet and get to know them a bit more, needless to say this is going to be a longtime part of the collection. vintageproductions Posted April 1, 2011 Share #7 Posted April 1, 2011 It is a SVN made beret but most photos you see more Americans wearing them.

gwb123 Posted April 2, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 2, 2011 Thanks! Are there different variations of these? Fritz It all depends on what you mean by variation. Even if two were made from the same camo pattern, they are likely to look different haveing come from different parts of the cloth they were cut from. Everytime a new one was made, it would look different. These were made in about every camo pattern you could imagine, in different shades and stripe design. If that were not enough, you had just about every combination of insignia you could imagine, including rank, unit, and qualification badges (airborne wings). An excellent reference is Jeff Ashenfelter's book "Jaunty Tilt". While primarily about ARVN berets, he has a couple of chapters on berets worn by US personnel. Nice beret, by the way.
