Richard Kimmel Posted March 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2011 VERY NICE HANDMADE LIGHTER BY A GI. HIS NAME IS "AL BLAISH" AND HE MADE THIS WHILE IN ENGLAND. ON ONE SIDE OF THE LIGHTER HE ETCHED HIS NAME AND THE WORD ENGLAND AND ON THE OTHER SIDE AGAIN HIS NAME AND ON TOP HIS SERIAL NUMBER "33346315". A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER WITH HIS NAME WAS FOUND INSIDE THE ROUND. I'M NOT CERTAIN IF THE "43" ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SHELL IS THE YEAR DATE OR IF IT WAS PART OF THE ORIGINAL SHELL? DSchlagan Posted March 24, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2011 That is a very nice trench lighter. Thanks for sharing it. The "43" on the head-stamp is the year of manufacture, original to the brass.

DSchlagan Posted March 27, 2011 Share #12 Posted March 27, 2011 Richard, Some further info on that .50 BMG case: "L M" Lowell Ordnance Plant, Lowell, MA It's interesting to note that J.M. Browning used the 30.06 Springfield cartridge as the basis for the .50 BMG cartridge used in his M2HB. You can notice this in comparing your lighters 'sparker' casing to that of the 'wick and chimney'. Regards, Don
