WW1 Brodies patent helmet-recent find

Helmet is a recent find and Im looking for more information to see if its an actual rimless model. The helmet has an overall brownish drab finnish with a little texture to it.The finnish is even through out the shell on both sides.I can see some scrathes and scuffing to the edge but no even circular marking where the ring would have been if removed.Im under the impression that the ring would have been in place when the helmet was given a finnish and if removed there would be bare steel where the ring had been.I have seen US models with the ring missing and the bare metal present.

Liner has the redish/pink stamp for the patent on the inside and the riveted chin strap bales.

Would like to hear any info forum members have on the early Brodies.

Thanks

RD

Hi Ron:

It does appear to be. Rimless shell; 2nd pattern liner. Certainly better than a regular Brodies with a 2nd or 3rd pattern liner.

See you in Minneapolis soon!

Rare and highly sought after by a small segment of WWI helmet collectors. The condition of this one greatly enhances it's value.

Marcus Cotton has been threatening to come out with a book on British helmets for decades, but aside from a few articles in Militaria Magazine, I don't think he's actually published anything yet.

Your best bet is probably Vol. 2 of Branislav Radovic's books on WWI helmets.

I haven't run across any websites dedicated solely to the Mk. Is, but most of the general helmet websites have at least a little info on them.
