Giovanni80 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi guys, at the end I bought these tags (with a little discount)...do you think I did a good purchase? Why there are only 6 numbers on SN? Is it true that the pilots tended to use lace rather then chain in case of cockpit fires, because dog tag chain getting red hot could cause more damage to ones body then the shoelace burning up? Thanks Giovanni

Thanks Giovanni Hello Giovanni, You ask two questions. I'll try to answer them for you. 1. Why six digits? Highly probable that the officer was Regular Army. I carried the serial number 085838 from the beginning of my commissioned career until such time it was changed over to the Social Security Number. 2. Did I pay too much? Obviously, this was a piece that you wanted very much for your collection. Since you were willing to pay a discounted price, and it is now in your collection, why not simply enjoy your new acquisition? It is worth some research. It might turn out that they are well worth more than you paid. Best regards, Jack Angolia

Best regards, Jack Angolia Thanks Jack for you answer...I am very happy about my acquisition and I can't wait it comes, it's just that, sometimes is not easy to explain something in a language that is not your... Since I was child I dreamed to find out dog tags like this...now I got The only thing is that I wish to know some more about that Soldier, but I saw that is not offen easy to know stories from tags only...anyway, this were found in a effect trunk of a pilot wich dead in my country...this is enough to make me dream that may be he was a pilot, may be was not, and immagin his story...so is not this the fashon to collect peaces of history? The little, big stories that they hide, and make us dream? I hope it's clear what I wrote :ermm: thanks again Giovanni
