Richard Kimmel Posted March 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2011 I would guess this could be considered a homefront item? This old book, loaded with wartime cartoons from Yank Magazine, was given by a father to his son who was in the military. I don't think there's a WWII vet living who has not heard of the "Sad Sack". Bob Hudson Posted March 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 6, 2011 Friday night my son and I watched the movie version of Sad Sack with Jerry Lewis. There was also a newspaper comic strip that ran through the late 1950's and the Sad Sack comic books produced into the early 80's. Sad Sack is apparently a shortened version of the WWII phrase, "a sad sack of sh*t." Wikipedia says Baker would only say he took his title from a “longer phrase, of a derogatory nature”. hirsca Posted March 6, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 6, 2011 He even made the cover of YANK magazine. I also hace a comic from the 50's, but the cover is missing. Al Hirschler in Dallas.
