I got this grouping at an estate sale in 2005 for $100.00

Mervyn L. Richards who was KIA when his plane crashed on August 26, 1944. He was the co-pilot at the time. Two of the occupants survived the crash and were rescued.

That is an awesome & moving grouping. thumbsup.gif It is good to know that it is in good hands & his sacrifice will be remembered.

I wanted to add that a member of the 379th bomb group association contacted me. His father, who is still alive was good friends with LT Richards before the war. He had some photos of him and his obituary. The last time he saw Lt. Richards was in 1943 a year before he died.

I've had larger items, with a larger price tag, but to be honest, this grouping is invaluable. I treasure it because of all the purple hearts and pricey groupings, this one has a strong link to the reality of war and a living person who lost a good friend in the conflict. In the price guide of life, this grouping is priceless to me. It reminds me that there's so much more to every piece I collect.
