WWI holster - need a little help

Recommended Posts

Below are 2 pics of a holster that my friends has. Her father was a WWI artillery officer and her uncle was a calvary officer. Would some one tell me what pistol would have been in this holster and if it was branch specific. Thanks.

M1911 Pistol (.45 auto). This style of holster was intended for mounted troops (e.g., Cavalry or Artillery), but I have many photos that depict it being worn by foot troops and military policemen. Attached is a photo of one being worn

The holster is known as the Model of 1912. In your photo it is attached to a belt slide that allowed it to be carried on the leather garrison belt but it was most often carried in the field on the web pistol belt as shown in jagjetta's photo. The holster is missing its leather leg strap which is seen in jagjetta's photo wrapped around the holster rather than the soldier's leg.
