Posthumous and POW WWII US Navy Air Medals - Engraving Styles

Recommended Posts

It's been some time since any examples have been posted on this thread. Here is a new example I just acquired. The pair was awarded to a 5.5 victory navy ace who was killed in an accident taking off from the USS Enterprise on October 31, 1944. He earned his victories in 1943 and 1944 with VF-21 and VF-20.

Since he was killed in an accident he did not earn a Purple Heart medal. His Distinguished Flying Cross was awarded to him in 1943 which is why it is not engraved.

Great stuff, Kurt!

Bobgee ( Bob Gill ) passed away a few years ago, but his legacy lives on.  He was a great contributor to this forum and always had a kind word to say about everyone's posts.
