  2. This is pretty cool as I found this newspaper clipping of my Grandfather's letter to his parents while serving in France July 28th, 1918 Evidently my Great Grandmother found his letter home to be news worthy and she let the local newspaper print the letter. It's a great feeling to be part of what he felt over 100 years ago. Enjoy the read -

  9. Post #6 This is a very interesting VC canteen - as bamboo was fairly abundant in Vietnam this certainly was more economical.
  10. Post #5 Another pouch but for what I do not know for sure. Interesting to see what was tucked inside this pouch - perhaps my Dad dreamed of acquiring but alas, with 9 children he had to go VW Bus route - LOL.

  14. Some 7 years ago I made a posting on the SKS Presentation Rifle awarded to my father while in Vietnam. Here is the link: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/150729-viet-nam-presentation-rifle/ I have been documenting more of my father's military items that he accrued over 38 1/2 years of service and I am now into the Vietnam era, completing both WWII and Korea.. My father was Commander of the 5th/22nd Artillery Battalion back in 1967-1968 which brought the M107 or 175mm SP guns into the Vietnam fray. They originally trained at Ft. Irwin, CA, (Death Valley) to better ho
  15. A colleague of mine thought that perhaps this is a "sweetheart bracelet" for a mom who had 2 sons in combat - very plausible me thinks.
  16. A family is asking what this bracelet may have represented. The vet was a pilot in the Pacific and had many artifacts in his possession when he passed away. The family has identified all but this item and I am hoping someone here might be able to help. This is the only pic I have and I cannot read the small inscription in the background, Thank you in advance, Dan
  17. Jack - Immense pride and having an outstanding mentor.
  18. I thought I would share 3 uniforms named to 2 great soldiers. The first 2 photos show the uniforms of my father from WWII and his retirement photo of 1981. The 2nd photo is of a dear friend who retired in 1996 and was a Vietnam hero. The associated plaques provide further information on each. Please enjoy the following 3 photos.
  19. Any idea about these photos / portfolio would be greatly appreciated...or ideas where I can go to better research. Thanks! Dan
