  1. I don't know the players involved nor their history with this forum, so as a neutral party with fresh eyes scanning this auction I noticed many famous figures represented but most without any provenance and mostly unnamed items. Perhaps you must attend the auction to see the name tags, engravings and provenance?
  2. Photo of General Patton's WWii Jeep ... this came from the Army directly to the Army Quartermaster Museum ... no third party involved.
  3. Patton's late WWII Jeep is at the Quartermaster Museum at Ft. Lee VA. It still has the Mercedes seat that he found more comfortable. And yes .... they have complete provenance The curator gave me a tour which included an up close look at the Jeep. Great museum ... I recommend a visit.
  4. Just a quick observation, not judging either way, but shouldn't there be a slight shine to the Black Widow Navy Cross and the ribbon looks new?
  5. Same person .... he is heavier on the right,

Robert, are you buying us all lunch for this nice talk? haha. I will say that on more than one occasion i have driven six hours round trip just to have lunch with Robert. Each time a worthwhile and insightful meal (and he even paid)

I second that. Robert is one of the finest contributors to the field of Militaria I have had the pleasure to meet over the past 40 years.
  8. I have spoken to vets who did not like anyone any of his nephews or nieces and did not want his items going to them.. so they sold them. In other circumstances, the vet said that a future relative will just sell them anyway... he may as well spend the money (VERY TRUE statement indeed).
  9. The medal was returned to a family member based on research by two private eyes. So the medal is back with the family. Congress take note: It did not take a law to have the medal returned. Returning found medals to family members has happened for over 50 years without Washington D.C. interference. Just saying....
  10. I'm getting fed up with eBay ... for the first time in 23 years... I'm afraid it is time to find a new primary site for buying and selling. Ebay has become unworkable and their customer service reminds me of a Soviet Union helpline. So the options are Gun Broker? what else?
  11. WOW.. first time hearing about those two issues. It won't be long before there are 100 specialty niche auction sites that become the preferred selling method for collectors of everything from Pez to medals to paintings.... and eBay will lose market share over time with these policies. As a 20+ year eBayer... it is sad to see them get so extreme. Pretty soon they will have to approve of your Halloween costumes too... its a bad road they are on.
  12. Seems to come in cycles. They allow them for a week or two... then cancel them daily for a few weeks. At least they aren't spewing that "It's illegal' BS they shoveled for years. Now they say it is against policy ... which is fine.
  13. That's true ... but at the same time... they have to be flagged. Perhaps through a FOIA request we can obtain documents showing the curator misconduct ... publish those papers along with their name and photo ... and let the readers decide... make no formal claim ourselves. It is infuriating that thieves and saboteurs are getting away with this... it has to stop. Because they just go to new archives and repeat their crimes ... they have to be exposed... I think this website is the solution.
  14. If you notice not all of the thieves on the website stole military items... some stole other rare recordings dating back to the 1930s. One of them is an oddball because he was sent into the National Archives to destroy NEW documents as a coverup. His name was Sandy Berger and he succeeded in stealing and destroying many documents.. didn't spend a single day in jail amazingly. So again... I still say we should create a website of these military only thieves for reference purposes AND INCLUDE THE CURATORS WHO STOLE AND WERE NOT CHARGED.
  15. There is a special place in hell for people like this... it is common for people working at archives and historical societies to take those positions for the sole purpose of stealing. The bigger problem is that the governments rarely charge these scumbags ... they let them resign often without returning the items. I spoke to a leading museum curator and he read off the top of his head a list of over a dozen museum curators who robbed the vaults they were hired to protect. I think there needs to be an accountability site specifically for this issue and as the government to provide information on all those forced to resign to make sure they don't continue their evil ways elsewhere.
  16. Tiger, The link takes you directly to the live congressional hearings to revoke the Medal of Honor from black and other recipients. Click on the link.. and believe. I predicted this 10 years ago.... this effort is no surprise to many. Soon... they will revoke the medals from WWII and Vietnam recipients based on current social norms. Watch for it... its coming. They never stop
  17. Congress is going to revoke the Medal of Honor awarded (many to black soldiers) who fought Native Americans https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/06/25/watch-live-lawmakers-native-americans-push-for-revoking-wounded-knee-medal-of-honor-recipients/ This will begin a reversal of countless of Medals of Honor ...
  18. I have a similar map that belonged to a Hellcat pilot who used it in VMF-115 and VMF-121 in Guadalcanal.
  19. I hate to break it to them but the first flag planted during the invasion was by the US 4th Cavalry Group under Lt Col Edward Dunn (later Maj Gen) land off the St Marcouf islands (3 miles off the Normandy coast) at 4:30am in total darkness.
  20. Why is a fringed flag on a beach? Just curious if that was common practice. I have seen flags in landings and on beachheads but none had office fringe.
  21. Jaques Swaab DSC SS PH WWI Ace Grouping on eBay Your thoughts? https://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERB-WW1-AMERICAN-JEWISH-FIGHTER-ACE-AVIATION-MEDAL-BADGE-DOCUMENTS-PILOT/113759893707?hash=item1a7c9e38cb:g:c3UAAOSwIJRc58z3
