  1. TOs had to have many hours of flight......not for EMs or FEs. It should be realized that "Hap" Arnold was a qualified TO. I think the badge was about as popular as a thumb in your eye.....hince they are rare today (real ones, that is).
  2. You're right........but all books seem to have their flaws. Illustrations are good, info sometimes suspect. Collecting is nothing more than learning to "run between the rain drops". Takes forever.......!!!!
  3. Appears to be 1896-1905 pattern (Emerson's Encyclopedia of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms; page 105), but I might be wrong.....??!!

  5. Thank you for the ID.......found a posting showing the badge in use.
  6. This badge is very well struck and finished. What appears as X's is really a monogram WM. Any ideas as to use or is it even military??
  7. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/218838-technical-observer-gemsco-comments-please/?hl=%2Bgemsco+%2Bwing........This will supply a little insight to this badge. hope it helps.<br /><br />Will
  8. Good to see another red background..........http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/259458-interesting-wing-background/ Also see the attached photo......period shot, same uniform.
  9. There's a piece missing.......the emblem that would have been attached to the ring (circle).
  10. Have to agree with Eric Queen......I have had these, red, blue. green and black if I recall correctly. Never had one with cheese cloth backing and I think the design was carried out better. Also the roundel its self is rather poorly cut on the posted example. These (in a modified design) were also printed on wool felt.....rather rare. Australian produced patches (all types) were generally very well made.
  11. That appears to be the staff for a Japanese regimental banner/flag...........rather rare......the banners or flags are even more rare. Most were burned to prevent capture.
  12. Thank you for taking a look.........and the Michener quote is "dead-on". Regards, Will
  13. Michener could see the future...............thank you for taking the time to respond. Will
