  1. Does anyone know the significance of the stamp "N5-2" on the bottom rear of this M69 Fragmentation Vest? Would this designate it to a vehicle, vessel, a post war stamp, etc.? It's a 1969 contact with zipper front if that is or any consequence. Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  2. I know the Marines made extensive use of ERDL tropical jackets towards the end of the war, along with SF and Recon units. However, I read regular Army units at the end of the war were issued ERDL as well. Do you have reference photos of this? How was it decided which regular Army units received ERDL? 4. I was poking around the forum to find an answer for this, along with looking at period photos and reviewing contracts. Was the Mitchell pattern cover distributed per contract regardless of branch (Army, USMC, Navy), or was it specific? I am not fluent in logistics of that era. Secondly, was one variant more commonly used with Marines than with the Army? The 2 lids in the center of my top shelf are two distinct variants for example. What caused this pattern variation? (Something to do with Cotton Twill?...)
  5. I saw this 71st patched M43 for sale. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142926181120 The 71st was inactived in 1946 after fighting at the end of the war. It was reactivated from 1954 to 1956 for being stationed in Alaska. My questions are: Does the patch look original to the jacket, is the jacket in a field/combat configuration, and how can I tell if it is a WWII M43 vs a 1950's used M3?
  6. WOW Those are gorgeous. So to confirm what you're saying, the only way the nets would be retained is if the vet brought it back? Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  7. Considering that after the war the majority of soldiers turned in their helmets, what is the likelihood any retained original nets? Would only bring back helmets still have them? I'm curious also where you get authentic nets for the helmets in your collection... Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks for sharing the eBay seller! I have a few helmets that need period correct, no cat eye bands. Any other recommended sources or members that have a bunch to sell? These legitimate Vietnam, or post war bands? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/302862112549
  9. Is there a reason why soldiers put their serial numbers and names on the inside of their shirts and jackets? Did they hope they would get their particular uniforms back after they were laundered? Considering the QM repaired uniforms and issued them back out, did they remove the SSI and rank? 10. Wow, thank you for tackling all of it Allan! Bath sites are a revelation, for it answers another question of how uniforms were maintained. Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  11. Ah! Interesting, thank you. Was practice done at the end of service, or was this done during active duty? Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  12. When did they produce army uniforms? Were they private purchase or a contractor? Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  13. Lastly, why do I sometimes see 2 different division SSI's on the same uniform, one SSI on the left and one on the right sleeve? Same uniform: Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  14. Soldier with no SSI Two soldiers from the 88th, one with SSI ans one without Infantry with no SSI Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
  15. Hello All, I am looking for North African/Italian campaign combat uniforms. Looking at photos, it looks like the U.S. predominantly wore M37 combat shirts and M1941 field jackets. While referencing period photos, I notice some soldiers have SSI, and some do not. Is there a reason for this inconsistency? I also noticed too while looking at some M37s for sale that rank patches and ruptured duck patches will be present without SSI. Is there a reason for this? Sent from my LGLS775 using Tapatalk
