  4. Jeff, Amazing! Thanks so much for posting these. SGT Tatarakis was an original member of the 3rd Airborne Ranger Infantry Company, assigned to 8240th AU after the Airborne Ranger Infantry Companies were disbanded in August of 1951 and served with Aviary as a Jumpmaster. On the night of February 19 1952, a C-46 carrying Aviary Jumpmaster MSG Davis Harrison, Assistant Jumpmaster Corporal George Tatarakis, 8240th agent handler CPL Dean Crabb and 6 Chinese agents approached the first of 3 drop zones at low altitude over Wonsan. A partisan team from BIG BOY was already in the Wonsan area and were assigned to mark the first DZ with fires and flashlights. As the C-46 approached the first DZ 2 Chinese agents were moved to the jump door. As the green light illuminated the first agent exited the aircraft immediately followed by the second agent, however, as the second agent stepped onto the jump platform he threw a grenade back into the aircraft. The explosion blew MSG Harrison who was standing next to the door clear of the aircraft. CPL Tatarakis was either blown from the aircraft or excited the aircraft immediately after the explosion. CPL Crabb and the remaining 4 Chinese agents were killed during the initial blast. The pilot, CPT Burger steadied the C-46 as best he could allowing his crewmen LT Layer, CPT King, LT Dick, LT Haley, SSG Rowden and SSG Poldervaart to exit the aircraft. Upon landing they were captured by North Korean soldiers and moved to prison camps for interrogation. CPT Burger was unable to make it out of the aircraft and died during the crash. MSG Harrison stated during his debriefing that he observed another parachute about two to 3 hundred meters up the flight path and above his position which is believed to have been CPL Tatarakis. Agents in the area reported sightings of a caucasian from the crashed C-46 being turned over by the North Koreans to Soviet officials. A former American POW who had been held in Wonsan reported he had seen another American POW in jail with a Greek sounding name shout out from his cell that he was being taken to Russia. Since that time no information on the fate of CPL Tatarakis has surfaced and he was declared KIA while missing.
  5. I hope this post finds everyone doing well. I Just added a lot of new content to all areas of the 8240th AU website. One of the things I added was the original 6th Partisan Infantry Regiment chronological events log which you will find interesting. The hand written log, brought back by MSG Charles Lamb covers the 6th Partisan Infantry Regiments daily significant activities from 2 March 1954 - 23 January 1954. https://www.8240th.com Matt Force matt@8240th.com 989-627-0864

  8. I hope this post finds everyone doing well. I'm happy to announce that I just launched the 8240th AU website. https://www.8240th.com The website features compressed histories, documents, insignia, personal items, photos, uniforms and equipment pertaining to the 8240th AU - UNPFK - UNPIK during the Korean War. There is also a section on the CCF/NKPA. Here's a couple of things that will help you navigate the website: 1. Best viewed when your internet browser is expanded so the only thing that you see is the website (not website and your desk top). 2. You will see a Tool Bar on the top of the home screen There is a drop Down "More" to the right of Wolfpack that will open a drop down menu for the rest of the sections. 3. On each section you will initially see 4 rows of 4. There is a "Show More" on the bottom of each section which you can continue to click on until all pics are loaded allowing you to scroll up or down. Or you can select the first picture in a section and use the right arrow to scroll thru all of the content in that section. I will be updating the website on a weekly/monthly basis. If anyone has any information, documents, insignia, photographs, uniforms etc.... pertaining to the 8240 that they would like to share please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks, Matt Force mkforce908@yahoo.com 989-627-0864

  12. Hi Razorback, I disagree with Allan and Ski - It's a black back Type 7 - If you compare it to a Type 10 the differences are easily seen. Matt
  13. Just finished redesigning/updating the entire website. You will find that it is much better (IMO) as you can load all the patches/items in each section by utilizing the "Load More" button on the bottom of each page. This allows you to scroll up and down to see all the items in a section. You can also move the cursor over the patch/item once you have selected it which will allow you use a magnifier to see all the details of the patch, insignia, item. http://www.botrmilitaria.com Thanks, Matt Blood On The Risers Militaria
