USGI Individual First Aid Kits
Allen Dail replied to ECHOROMEO's topic in FIELD & PERSONAL GEAR SECTION
If you are talking about the Nylon case with hard plastic insert thar kit comes in two different sizes. The original size was similar to the WW II jungle first aid kit. Later in the late 80s or early 90s it was enlarged by 2 or three inches. They look the same but ones case and inset is larger than the other. -
Vietnam field pack and ammo bandoliers?
Allen Dail replied to dunmore1774's topic in FIELD & PERSONAL GEAR SECTION
The pack is an M 1944 converted to M 1945 standards . The old quick release tabs under shovel tie down on lower front and center lower rear are the telltale signs of this. Shpuld be a tab on either side of pack as well. Check under upper flap equipment flap for a date. -
Found a link showing shovel attached to suspenders. I believe i is the same type as posted above. There is another post on the covers with disk I will still try and find. In this thread posted by Andrew of Candians testing Experimental U.S. gear. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/270367-early-ex54-gear/page-3

I remember seeing one posted in this forum but can't find thread. I think it is a test example and the brass disk between attachment clips slides into a slit/pocket on the suspenders. Still searching for thread will post link if I find it.

Yes Pawtwo that is the long johns that I was issued except my drawers were white instead of brown. I was not issued poly pro until Germany. I preferred the ones I was issued in basic over the polypros , plus we were only supposed to wear natural fibers under our nomex on tanks. a pic of my top and my bottoms looked like these not sure if these are the exact model but they were white like these.

I was is in Armor and we had a black knitted balaclava that we could wear in winter not sure if this was issued to other units though. Here is a pic of me wearing it under my cvc at Grafenwohr ,Germany. Some guys also wore the watch cap or beanie of the PT uniform in cold weather under the Helmet in the field.
