  1. Like Bearmon said above, repro and there are lots of fakes made to look original on eBay. USCG in Vietnam patches are scarce but they do pop up on eBay and you can even find a good bargain from time to time
  2. I have gotten lucky with some early patches from the time period, and always looking out for a beret. With any luck we will both find one, one day!
  3. Firefighter - thanks for posting the picture of the beret. I always suspected that one of the three PSUs that deployed ISO Operation Desert Storm/Shield wore a beret, but never had any luck finding a clear picture of it in use until recently. Including the two photos above I am up to three sightings. Still trying to find an original beret with the patch.
  4. Very disappointing to hear they won’t be publishing and I only hope you find a publisher who can produce to the same level as your last book.
  5. Does anyone have an example of the Coastal Forceman rating in use?
  6. They have official and unofficial patches. I have picked up a few over the years and if I can unearth them I will post them.
  7. Another friend and forum member told me about Garth’s passing and I am just floored. I visited Garth fairly often while assigned as a reservist to Sector Lower Mississippi River in Memphis. Always loved visiting with him and KT, though it was really just me and Garth talking about the Coast Guard and drinking coffee. He will be missed.
  8. I can’t tell you if this is original based off the photos, but the UCSG re-released this and another poster right around 9/11. I believe it was relatively large format though.
  9. Welcome to the forum Condor. There are a few USCG collectors here. I am in the reserves, sitting on 20 years and change right now.
  10. @PhillipineBuckles here is the Coast Guard Squadron Three buckle to Schnick. I feel very fortunate to have snagged it off eBay. I have many other Philippine buckles to the Coast Guard as well as some Zippo made pieces. Much of my loot has been in storage over the last eight years (living/working overseas) so I will try and post as I unearth them.
  11. The one on the left looks like it is a Swedish Police badge, but the "JW" is throwing me off.
  12. I found an article with a photo of Hagstrom being awarded the LOM here, http://www.vietnamproject.ttu.edu/uscgdiv13/awards.htm, but couldn't copy and paste.
  13. I thought you had me at the DD-214 until I read that LOM citation. It doesn't get much better than that!
  14. Outstanding group! I think you are right about the group being an earlier version since the first style commendation lacks the additional stars. The Good Conduct medal is a later variety, however, and should have been the first style and almost certainly named. I really want to know how he qualified for the American Campaign medal with an enlistment date in October 1946, since, if not mistaken, that exceeds the 2 March 1946 end date. Perhaps a family member thought he rated it? Maybe he thought he rated it. He definitely qualified for theVictory medal so it could have been a simple error.
