Lowest Type 1a Purple Heart In Your Collection
Chester replied to HistoryNut's topic in MEDALS & DECORATIONS
I have a WW1 WIA Split Broach Purple Heart, numberd 347. It is named to a 165th IR, 42nd ID Veteran. WIA July 28, 1918. Purple Heart awarded March 25, 1932. -
Just got this today, WWII #'d Silver Star

Why is the number a secret? -
He was not a flyer. He was part of the VT-3 squadron maintenance crew. In other words he worked on the squadron's aircraft. He was killed on the USS Enterprise during a Japanese boming attack. It is a nice early heart, but not for $1700.00. That is why I passed on it when it was offered to me, after the auction ended. Although if you are paying in Euros, it is only really costing around $1275.00 US. At that price I think you are OK.

Looking at a USMC WIA Okinawa Purple heart tomorrow

So it turned out to be just what I expected, sort of. This type of Heart is not for me. In my opinion there is too much bad karma attached. -

Maybe the Marine was KIA not WIA. Just need the name on the medal to find out. History on these medals sometimes gets confused over time. The current owner may not know what he has for sure. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. No need to start with all of these "Red Flags" until the medal is viewed. -
And now it is on epay! After all of the help that was given, it would have been nice if it was offered here first. C. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWI-US-Army-Medal-...=item416bc0aaf9

I am searching for the following WW2 Medals. All of the men on this list are KIA. I have one or more medal(s) that belonged to each of these men, so I would like to find the medal(s) that are missing in order to complete the groupings. The list states the name of the soldier/airman/sailor - and the medal(s) that I am seeking. If you have something on this list please contact me. Thanks. Chester. Medals Needed - Army 1) Earl B. Futch - Purple Heart. 2) Robert W. Keenan - Purple Heart. 3) Donald F. Lahr - Purple Heart. 4) Richard C. Lahr - Bronze Star & Purple Heart. 5) Francis D. M

Garth, I feel that the dfferance in value is based on the research potential. I personally find that in most cases, KIA's are more easily researched. In another words, there is more information as far as unit, date of injury, location etc. on KIA's, than there is on non POW WIA's. The biggest problem that you have is that because of that fire in 1973, most of the records are missing from the National Archives. So, unless you have some information from the family, the chances of finding unit information on any WIA is slim. I personally have 36 named WIA Purple Hearts. Of those, I only

Well if it is Kelley with an E, he was a Submariner on the USS Herring. Killed when the boat was sunk by shore batteries off of Matsuwa Island, Kuriles. I am still not certain. Let's see if anything else turns up, before I decide that it is him. C.
