  1. Seller indicates it doesn't glow. Can't believe it ended at only $22. I assumed it would do a little better. Either it's not all that rare or the "ER" being removed hurt the value a lot. Heck, I would have bid on it if I would have known it was going to go that low.

I was also surprised and happy. If anyone has one that is in better shape I would love to see it.

  2. I saw this posted on eBay, and thought the same thing. Have never seen one before. Is it a more rare patch?

Not sure how rare it is. But I agree, Ive never seen one before either. It looks to be 40’s-60’s era.

  3. Since I live in Georgia, I have seen many of our National Guardsmen of the 48th Brigade wearing the 24th ID SSI over the years, so I just assumed it was a common practice among all roundout brigades back in the days when that program was around. Now I'm not so sure.

I posted the following photos back in 2014 showing soldiers of the Arkansas National Guard's 39th Infantry Brigade wearing the full color SSI of the 101st Airborne Division on their pockets. The first photo shows Brigadier General Harold Gwateny, commander of the 39th Brigade at Fort Chaffee in 1976. Center is Colonel Colin Powell, future Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State, as a brigade commander in the 101st, and on the right is General Bernard Rogers, commander of Forces Command. I don't think the 39th was technically a roundout brigade for the 101st but rather was aligned with the 101st for training purposes.

I have always been curious as to whether members of the Mississippi National Guard's 155th Armored Brigade ever wore the SSI of the 1st Cavalry Division on their pockets or breasts when they served as a roundout brigade for that division in the 80's and 90's.

Those are some cool pictures. I have never seen anything like that before.

  4. Firefighter - thanks for posting the picture of the beret. I always suspected that one of the three PSUs that deployed ISO Operation Desert Storm/Shield wore a beret, but never had any luck finding a clear picture of it in use until recently. Including the two photos above I am up to three sightings. Still trying to find an original beret with the patch.

I dont think my buddy would let his beret go. Not my field of collecting but I would love to have one.

  5. Here is a better picture. I have a buddy that was in the 9th PSU. He said they ordered these before going over. post-105435-15838801264148.jpg
