I found this at the local dollar store this week. It's a childrens civilian gas mask. I thought it was an interesting little piece, so I picked it up, and I can waste the space for $1.

I blackened in the markings on the other picture, the flash bleached it out.
Here are the instructions.

Looks like Hebrew characters to me. I would think Israeli? Just a guess.

Was this the only one in the store? Were there more?

Theres a whole mess of them left, I only picked up 1. They're at the Real Deals in Pulaski, where Ames used to be.

Just got a few myself. I remember at the Real Deals in Oswego a few years ago, they had chemical suits from the army that were sealed. They decided to open the packages and sell the jacket and pants separately. I guess none of them served in the military or they would have remembered that they are loaded with loose charcoal powder....what a mess they made on the floor! I never got any since they were so messy.

From their website:
- From government of Ukraine (former republic of Soviet Union). Gas masks were imported to The United States in accordance with permit #01-13251 issued by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms of Department of the Treasury of USA. After September 11, 2001.
Made between 1985-2001.
Filters last 8 hours.
I tried it on and even though its a kids mask, it fits and works fine. Although I much prefer the current military masks better.
