Found this liner in a steel pot. It's made out of some kind of plaster or maybe fiber of some kind. Reminds me of a cast they would put on your arm if broken. What do you think? Mike

Why would you go through all that trouble to make a prop when you can get a liner with no trouble?? It's wierd

Maybe they needed a lot of them and just used the same mold to make them?

M-1 liners are very available today however, they weren't nearly as available in the 50's, 60's, and 70's while the military was still using these things. When movie production houses needed large numbers of these helmet for all the extras in battle scenes, a good prop department good knock out a couple 100 of these look-a-like helmets in a very short time for very little money.

I agree with Bugme, they are probably just to be seen at a distance while any close ups were with the real thing.

I think it's a Hollywood prop, they would use these because it was a lot lighter than a real helmet and as mentioned by Bugme, M1 helmets were not as easy to get as they are now

used for old TV shows like COMBAT

with a net or camo cover it could easily pass as a real M1 helmet

You made me think about rare USMC helmet covers being glued into these liners.. crying.gif

notice it doesnt have any rivets like a liner, so it must have been made to look like a steel helmet and they would wear a jeep cap for padding if used as shown without any webbing
