My children always thought that I have a weird hobby. I would spend many weekend days walking through various old cemeteries around the Baltimore area. One in particular is Loudon Park on the West side of Baltimore. In the cemetery there is a place called Confederate Hill and there are many graves of Maryland boys who fought for the South. One grave in particular always garners my interest. It is a plot with thirteen unknown CSA soldiers who were killed at Gettysburg. I often wonder if their families missed them or if they were ever missed by anyone or were they just lost to history. And when I saw this video on You Tube it made think of all those unknown graves. This is a video of the remains of a young New York soldier who was killed early in morning on the battlefield at Antietam. His long forgotten shallow grave was found in October of 2008 and although his identity is known only to God his remains were returned to New York last week for burial in a National Cemetery. And if this video does not bring a tear to your eye I don't think anything will.

I was thinking about this recently and looked to see if there were any videos of the soldiers burial in NY. And I found a few videos and they actually have the soldiers funeral services in several parts. The NY soldier was buried in his home state 147 to the day of the of his death and I find it all to be very moving.
