I was hunting around the local flea mall and found a leather case. I didn't pick it up, I will if I can confirm what it is. Through my research, the closest I have come to finding a match is M1918 Trench Periscope, NO. 10 leather case. The picture is in "World War One Collectors hand book by Paul Schulz"...page 125.

The case had no marking was about 3-4 feet long and flared out on one side towards the top. I thought it might be a gun case, but when you open it, it has wood below the flare out the entire length of the case. with only a hole big enough for a barrel or long scope. The top flare out of the case could not hold a butt of a rifle of any size it's only about 8 inches before you hit the hole.

Does any of that make sense biggrin.gif
Does anyone have a pic of the inside of the above periscope case?
Sorry I can't take pic's in the flea mall.
Thanks for your help.

It looks a lot like that. Minus the periscope biggrin.gif

Is it possible to get a pic of the inside of the case without the periscope?

And does the case have any markings on it?

Are there any other cases that are similar in apparence that you are aware of?

Thanks

Here are the markings on the leather case. I will try to take pictures of the inside this weekend. There is one other type of periscope; I'll see if I can find pics online.

That would be great. thumbsup.gif

As I look close at the stitching on your case....it remindes me of another case I have seen just down the road from my place. Same color leather same color and type of stitching. It looks to be some sort of ammo case for a Bren gun? it's about 6 inches wide 10 inches tall and has a curve to it. The inside has metal dividers inside for 4 or 5 clips? Could it be something else? Did the US have any large ammo clips that were slightly curved?

I'm off the orginal subject...sorry biggrin.gif The stitching and leather color reminded me.

Thanks for the pic's and your help.

It sounds like a Swedish magazine case, I forget which gun it was used with. Look close at it you will probably find three crowns stamped into it some where.
