Hello,

Recently, I adopted the grave of this man.

He was from Kentucky, born in 1918.
Enlisted on april 8, 1942 Fort Custer, Michigan.
ASN: 36179413
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Was KIA near Bastogne on December 30, 1944.
Awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, EAME with 1 bronze star, WWII Victory Medal.
Buried at US Military Cemetery of Henri-Chapelle, Belgium.

That's about all of the information I gathered till now.
I am still waiting for the adoption papers to arrive, but started my research already.

Is there anyone who can provide me with more information on the 53rd AIB and/or regarding this person?
I hope to get a photo of him as well.

Thanks in advance. thumbsup.gif

The 53 AIB arrived in France on July 13, 1944. They were assigned to the 4th Armored Division.

Campaigns:

Ardennes-Alsace
Central Europe
Normandy
Northern France
Rhineland

Thanks, Jim.
I am particularyl looking for anyone who has the roster(s) of this unit.
Maybe Sgt. Jackson is on them.

As far as I could find, he probably was killed when the 4th AD tried to widen the Bastogne corridor ... an assault that occured about at the same time as an all-out assault by elements of the infamous 1st SS Panzer Division "LAH".
The Germans got repulsed but the 4th suffered quite some casualties.

I also wonder where he got the Bronze Star.
It must be somewhere in France.

Still looking for more information regarding this man.
Anyone has a lead to get a picture of this man?
Does anyone have the unit book of the 53rd AIB?
Thank you.

Hey Erwin-

There is only one printed history of this battalion and it appears that it does not contain very much information. The Military History Institute in Carlisle, PA has a copy. I will visit there sometime in the next several months for research and while there will see if there is anything of consequence for you in the book.

Thank you, Greg.
That would be great.
