I just purchased a named uniform this weekend at BAM. It belongs to Corporal Joseph W. Serknis or Serkins. Those are the two spellings on his uniform. He spells it Serknis at the collar and Serkins at the hem of the uniform.
Anyway, his serial number is 31338745. He has an unnumbered Armored patch on his left sleeve. His awards are the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with one campaign star, and a WWII Victory Medal with one campaign star.
Can anyone help me with more information about this soldier? I tried NARA but returned nothing. Also, what does the campaign star mean on the WWII Victory Medal? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The campaign star on the victory medal is something I have seen on a lot of ribbon set mostly from the Pacific Theater I assume that it is some unoffical thing for being on activity duty for both the surrender of Germany and Japan. Any one out there that can confirm or deny this assumption.
