Since this forum started there have been several people that asked how to assemble this particular pack system. There is no one simple answer since the pack was in use from 1910 until 1945 or possibly longer and over these 35 plus years the contents changed. I have taken the assembly instructions from 4 different manuals to cover from 1918 until 1942. This should answer the majority of questions but if not please add your questions at the end of this and we can try to get an answer.

Craig, Here are some pictures of my 1928 pack that I made up the same as the manual illustrations. It also has the wool overcoat and raincoat attached as per the specs. BTW. The whole thing weighs a ton, when packed, but gets a lot of attention at militaria shows, when I setup there. BTW Of course, the rope should not be in the picture with the blanket, socks and underwear. Oops!!

BTW. Here is the diagram I used to pack the blanket roll. It gives a closer view of the contents. Making the roll and getting it into the pack extender correctly is a real pain, even in peacetime. The designers of this pack system must have been universally despised by the poor soldiers who had to carry this gear.

Mine seems to have two extra hooks on the back. What do they connect to?
