Was digging thru my containers for a para chinstrap and found my M1944 set so I 'd thought i post some pics.

Here is the upper and lower packs in the M1944 configuration along with the suspenders off to the right.

The upper pack is dated 1945

As is the lower pack

And some shots of the quick release straps.

Anyone know someplace I can get new buckles to repair this? Did not notice this when I bought it. Also would it be the ladder buckles or the WWI style?

I also pulled out the M1923 cartridge belt in OD#7 and the M1944 suspenders. Both dated 1945. The cartridge belt is about 4-5 different shades of OD but is in otherwise great shape.

All the M-44 upper packs I've seen up to this point (admittedly, not many  ) were fitted with ladder buckles for flap closure, and the M-45s had the older type box buckles.

Hinson seems to have put out quite a range of color shades in their canvas gear; I've got some of their ammo belts that are similarly multi-shaded (which is a plus to me, especially dark-and-light mix-ups  )

Great set of gear, Svt40...pretty cool how they constructed the pack with the maker stamp on the outside! :)

I have shown on the link posted unmodified M44 uppers with both style buckles. I think it was a matter of what the makers had available.

M43 has become a collector's term for these. By official nomenclature they are the last model of M36 suspenders.

This topic covers them in pretty good depth. I'm not sure if it hits on them really being m36 vs "m43" but if you skim through it you can probably find an answer.

The WWII US Army Regulations for the Service and Field Uniforms only recognizes two types of equipment suspenders.

I am not sure how to cite this but it's under Clothing and Individual Equipment, Part IV, SubSec B (pg 113)

Suspenders, belt, M-1936.....Per off, WO, and EM not issued pk, fld, cargo and combat or auth substitute...

Suspenders, pack, field, cargo and combat.....per indiv auth pk, fld, combat, M-1945 or pk, fld cargo and combat M-1945.

No, they are not. There is no such thing as "M43 suspenders". And while we're on the subject, the Combat Field Pack Suspenders weren't designated M1944 either. Contrary to what a lot of collectors believe, the Army did NOT give every single thing in it's inventory an M number. The Ordnance Deparment usually used this designation system on all material, but the Quartermaster Department did not.
