My father was in Company A, 1st Battalion, 13th Infantry, 8th Infantry Division, in Baumholder, Germany in 1973. After the Army withdrew from Vietnam, the Army started to stop issuing ERDL but the 1st Battalion, 13 Infantry was chosen to test the ERDL jungle fatigues in Europe. I still have his original coat (DSA 1969) and thought Id share. Ive also got a article from THE Arrow that mentions it and several pictures of him and his unit wearing the ERDL.

Thanks for sharing this forgotten piece of cammo history .

This is something I have never seen before .

I do notice M-65s also being worn , so the weather must have been colder !!!

Very cool

the cammo scheme on this M113 APC was also experimental only to the units stationed in germany between 1973-1976 when the standard 4 scheme earth-brown-dark green & black cammo adopted

stil no sign of ERDL helmet covers in 1973.. 4 long years after their suposed adoption in 1969...!!!

seems that the stock of the mitchels was huge as they are still around in logical quantities..

Heres a better picture of the paint scheme. I also remember my dad mentioning something about the paint.

From the pictures he took, I can also see it was painted on some of the trucks.

How many ERDL sets were issued to your dad?

Im not sure but I would say a few. It looks like they were issued the ERDL as their main utility uniform.

Thats interesting... I could not remember bumping into a 8th Infantry badged up ERDL in my many years of Vietnam camo hunting in Paris flea markets and vintage/second hand stores.

Musta be a rare catch in the ERDL collecting area.

Nice pics of your dad's service.
