Here's my Iwo Jima group. Not a Silver Star recipient, but I like it.

Pharmacist's Mate 3rd Class Grayson Blackwell Lassiter served as a corpsman with 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines. Lassiter was wounded on March 1, 1945, and died of his wounds three days later. Interestingly, Lassiter served as a corpsman alongside James Bradley, one of the Iwo Jima flag raisers. He was initially buried in the 4th Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima. His remains were later repatriated to his hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia.

And here's his maternal grandfather's Southern Cross of Honor. Pvt. T. Augustus Lacy, served with Co I, First Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. Lacy enlisted in 1861 and was mustered out in 1862 due to a disability.

A change of pace here, a USN Lieutenant who was wounded off of Iwo Jima on March 1, 1945. His ship DD-513, the USS Terry, was hit by shore gunfire and he was wounded and received the Bronze Star for his actions that day. He also got a Navy Commendation for service on the ship from 9/43 thru 8/44. The medals are not named but I like it. According to the award cards, both the BSM and Commendation warrant the 'V' for valor. Enjoy, Mark.
