In 1937 the Army of the United States was gearing up for war as World War Two started in Europe in 1939 and it was a matter of time before the U.S. entered the war, which did happen on 8 December 1941, the day after the Japanese Navy launched airplanes from the decks of their aircraft carriers. The U.S. could see German and Italy rearming themselves and they set out to show what they had through the use of patriotoc postcards that were tinted. This set shows the various equipment used such as listening devices mounted on wheels, artillery, tanks, airplanes, etc., you name it, they were adopting the latest technology. Sarge Booker of Tujunga, California (hhbooker2@yahoo.com) If you want to get larger images than can be viewed here and more of them for free, get on the mailing list and start getting scans to download and do whatever you wish to do with them, folks!

There were postcards printed up for various camps using the same images. I have one for Camp Shelby, MS.

Page 9. thumbdown.gif (Machine Gun Training). CUSTERMAN: I suspected some of the same images were used or they used the same blueprints to construct their buildings the same way was another possibility, but it stands to reason to use stock pictures as those buying the postcard set probably never gave a second thought if they saw those particular structures as they probably spend most of their time in intensive training. It would be nice to see more images here of those fine old pieces of pasteboard with scenes of military life. Thank you for sharing, nice pictures, by the way!
