Hello to all

As promised in my previous post, here are some more 29ers found last year and in less than 6 months in the area nicknamed the "Bloody hill" by all the braves who survived this terrific battle in June 1944: The 1/175th soldiers.

After three days of heavy fighting and maintaining the line in front of constant Germans counterattacks (in the 29th division, the word "counterattack" is prohibited and replaced by the expression "'ennemy enthousiasm"!!), the 1st Bn 175th will hold the line during one month before being replaced by the 2/115th rgt. In July, the 2/115 will launch a new attack from that hill during the last phase of the battle of ST LO. This first found helmet was found in the ditch of sunken road in frontlines occupied by the 2/115th during that time.

There is a name inside the steel pot: Caplan.Looking at my lists of 29ers, I've found a T/5 Raymond Caplan from Baltimore. He served in HQ co 2/115 and is listed as KIA. I have never been able to find exactly if he is the soldier of the helmet because I don't have the date when Caplan was KIA. The helmet was found in an area liberated around middle of July 44.

This helmet is not mine but is in my friend's Rico's collection (Rico's found it and unfortunately had no camera in the field that day)
