subsystem4 Posted January 30, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2008 What bag would a korean war USN corpsman carry his medical supplies in? WWII 14-450 bags? Or the late war "unit 3"? I have seen those post WWII medic bags marked with a caduceus that have lots of zippered compartments inside are they korean war era or vietnam? craig_pickrall Posted January 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2008 Greg Robinson and I just had this discussion a week or so ago. I took some pics then that I will post for you. The first pic is from a USMC Tour Book dated 1953 - 54. It shows a Corpsman carrying what was then the new Army medic bag. Greg and I agreeded, when we were discussing it, that there were probably still plenty of the WW2 bags in use as well. The other 3 pics or of the style bag seen in the period pic. It is made of a water repellent canvas that reminds me of the rubberized musette bags but it isn't quite as thick.
craig_pickrall Posted January 30, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 30, 2008 The design of this bag had changed very little by Vietnam. THe closure strap is improved and the material is a rubberized canvas.
Greg Robinson Posted January 30, 2008 Share #4 Posted January 30, 2008 Here's a "Unit No 3" bag I just picked up a few days ago. It's the design normally said to be late WW2 but take note of the dark OD color shade with tan stitching. Craig and I have both decided it's post WW2. It might have been used in Korea and may have still been around in Viet Nam as an extra bag used in addition to the M3's shown in Craig's pics at times when extra medical supplies were needed. Since it could have been attached to the M1941 haversack just like an M1941 knapsack it would be near impossible to spot in period photos.

Justin Posted April 4, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 4, 2009 Thank you for posting! Do you have info on the contents, and info on the m5 medical bag? Thank you
craig_pickrall Posted April 5, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 5, 2009 The contents for the Korean era bag is listed at the top of that section of the manual. I have several of the M3 bags with contents and some also have the contents sheet with them. Same for the M5 bag.
