(manufacturers, markings on the blade , cross guard and pommel, two pins pommel types, blade length etc.... Thanks
doyler Posted March 14, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 14, 2012 Coles books on Military fighting knives has nice detailed drawings of most all the major markings.
sactroop Posted March 14, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 14, 2012 +1 for the above. Also I can highly recommend this. http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/coniglio.htm Go to http://www.usmilitaryknives.com press enter and select books for sale.
SKIPH Posted March 14, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 14, 2012 John-Along with sactroop, and doyler's suggestions, also try "The US M3 Trench Knife of World War Two", by Coniglio & Laden. All are great sources. Plus check the M3s out on ebay. But, beware, there are a ton of fakes, and repros. Study up, before you buy! SKIP
Bill in VA Posted March 14, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 14, 2012 I'll also give my thumbsup for both the little Coniglio book and Cole's US Military Fighting Knives. All of Cole's volumes are now combined into one big volume called "The Best of US Military Fighting Knives." IIRC I paid about $65 for it (or was it $85? EWither way, a real bargain.) Still-A-Marine Posted March 15, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 15, 2012 ... All of Cole's volumes are now combined into one big volume called "The Best of US Military Fighting Knives." ... The "Best of US Military Knives" does not have all the items from Coles III & IV. Most are there but not all. Its getting pretty hard to find Coles III & IV. "The Best of" is the way to go for most people at this time. It took me quit a while to find copies of III & IV at a decent price. I probably use them more than all my other reference books combined.
