Nicely done. It seems appropriate that you are using a duffle bag to sit on your duff. 😁 I don’t know if that slang term works over there. mikie

. Visiting Normandy summer 2024 . . . . . . . . As I have been driving around Normandy it has been highly evident that all the museums have been making extensive work preparing for this 80th anniversary. The museum at Deadman's corner have taken over fields next to the museum and greatly extended their parking lots, along with other building work and changes within the museum. I hear that the museums at Quineville and the Overlord museum near Omaha Beach have made alterations and changes to their displays. A visit to the Collins museum at the Chateau de Franquetot, Rue d' Eturville near Blosville village is recommended. Below is a photograph of the new museum extension at the Ste Mere Eglise airborne museum, I haven't visited it yet to see what new displays they have incorporated into the building. So be prepared if you have visited these museums in the past they could be greatly different and require more time to view them, There are also new monuments in a lot of locations. Please note that there will be many road restrictions in the area of Omaha Beach on June 6th due to the large televised commemorations being held at the Omaha beach cemetery and a number of town centres will be off limits to all vehicles on June 6th for their commemorative celebrations. Numerous surrounding fields will be allocated for out of town parking. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, April 25 2024. ...

    WW1 Battleship Victory Medal

Kurt, Yes, you have a fantastic find there. LMK if you plan on selling it as it would make a great addition to my Great War medal collection. Best regards John

. Hi Graham, I was very much amused at your 1994 photo of Utah Beach it so much reminded me of paintings in the style of the British artist L.S. Lowry ( 1887 - 1976 ). Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, April 25 2024. ...

    What tab would go here?

Yeah so I guess the real question is if there is a macv patch which tab should there be? Most of the ones I see on eBay or whatnot say airborne so you’re probably right. I think that’s the way to go unless someone has a different take. Appreciate all of the help as usual
  12. Picked this up at the flea market this morning. USN Victory Medal with Armed Guard clasp. Named on the obverse to a crewman on the USS Louisiana (BB19) which conducted convoy escort late in the war.

    Flea Market WWII Purple Heart

At first glance it does appear to be the same Purple Heart, though as you mentioned the angle is much more flattering the second time around.

  16. There is a separate thread on WWII officer’s airborne brass, but I thought I might add these to the pinned thread. Allan

  18. Sorry new to this website so I might have posted this already I have a WW2 Ike jacket with the USSTAF patch on it. Top part of the wing is missing on the right side. It wasn’t removed just never there. Does this have any meaning?? Or defective patch, that would be odd?

. Hi Johan, Thanks for the ' like ' on the usage of the damaged duffle bag on my rear cushion. I had just enough canvas to cover the seat pad as I doubt mine would have lasted out the next couple of months over the anniversary period. There is a repaired hole in the surface of the canvas which is evident when looking at the seat. My pad is a little thicker than the reproduction pads now available, as I don't have much padding on my backside then a thicker pad is more comfortable when driving a couple of hundred kilometres. 21. Hey guys do y’all see any red flags with this scabbard? I think it’s good but I’m still learning. I posted it on a Facebook group and most said it was ok but one guy had concerns with the leather on the back of the scabbard. Said it “looked like the incorrect type of leather” so that’s my main concern. The first picture is the one he commented on. As y’all know, these scabbards aren’t cheap so I like to make absolutely sure of their authenticity. Thanks for any help!!
  22. If anyone is interested, I'd like to get the correct sheath so I'd be willing to trade my m1910 sheath for a m1917. I'll make a post in the trade section too.
  23. That's what I'm thinking, it was probably a recent thing a collector did. But that being said some soldiers where getting issued WW1/WW2 gear in Vietnam so I guess anything is possible. I remember talking to a marine vet and he said/claimed the metal canteen cup he was issued in 67 had 1918 on the bottom.
