  2. So it was never awarded to US Marines? Did the Marines loose every match?
  3. I have a ww2 1944 Ike jacket with a USSTAF sleeve patch on it. The patch is missing the top part of the wing on the right side. It hasn’t been removed it was just never there. Does this have any kind of meaning?
  4. For reasons I don't really know, it just makes sense to me, I tend to believe a new cover (they are pretty regularly available) was put onto a scabbard to complete it by a more recent former owner than it being a contemporary thing.

    My Little Soldier

Cute little guy. Is that a child’s mannequin? It has a great 1950s look to it.
  6. Interesting group. Do you have better pictures of the CBI wing?

  8. Hey guys, Does anybody know anything about this shell? I think it is 105mm. Thanks! -Ski
  9. IDK, but as with anything a Soldier can’t get what they don’t have and they will get what they got if it was serviceable; back then they were way more frugal than now.

    Norman D. Landing

. Hi mikie, BEAST and Indian Head, Thanks for the likes on the cushion cover, the duffel bag had been so badly damaged post war or more recently it didn't bear any resemblance to how it should look for displaying in a collection but I wanted to preserve the soldiers name somehow as he had stencilled it. Hopefully like this it will survive for years to come. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, April 25 2024. ...
  12. Thanks for your answer. Considering it’s armor piercing power, is this ammo mix up is rather for vehicule (tanks, armored cars …) rather than infantry use ? thanks
  13. I bought a Plumb m1917 bolo, but the sheath I got is the older m1910 sheath however, it has the later 1918 canvases sheath cover. A WW1 collector said it was a common occurrence for soldiers to get issued m1917 bolos with the earlier m1910 sheath/with the 1918 canvases cover. He might be right, but it seems weird that they would issue the sheath with the locking device when it serves no purpose on the m1917 bolo. my guess is the m1910 cover dry rotted so a collector down the line bought a 1918 cover to replace it. Didn't know the difference between the sheaths so they put it with a 1917 bolo.
  14. Part of a Squad of 3rd Division Grunts all wearing Tan side out in West Germany, think September 1968.

  18. Thats some good family military legacy. My avatar here is my WWI USN Radioman 2nd class grampa, who was a rail road telegrapher with the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific RR "Milwaukee Road" before he volunteered for the Navy, which sent him to the USN Radio School at Harvard, and his older brother, my great uncle, who was a dough-boy overseas in the Great War. I ordered my grampa's Navy personnel file from NARA years ago. Seventy bucks well spent. Another of my grampa's brothers enlisted in the Army and was a PFC with the 2nd Division, 23rd Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company K. He died 50 years ago after a long life and his VA headstone shows he was awarded the Purple Heart, but his records were lost in the fire at NARA, ironically in 1973 the same year he died. He died on June 8, the NARA fire that wiped out much of the Army's personnel records was on July 12, 1973.
  19. His brothers Bob and Russ both served in the Army as infantrymen and were both wounded. Bob I believe was wounded at Guadalcanal.
  20. The other guy in the photo is actually his uncle (they were 3 years apart😬) Cecil who worked at NY harbor. When my g-grandfather came back from being overseas his ship went into NY harbor for Navy Day and while he was on leave saw him.
  21. Is the soldier in the photo your great-great uncle, aka, your g-grandfather's bro? If you have the dough, you might want to one day consider contacting Geoff at Golden Arrow Research. Check out his website. Unless this lousy inflation has forced him to raise prices, his price to copy the complete Navy personnel file for your ancestor at NARA in St. Louis is $70. You'll get every page scanned in full color high resolution and sent to you as a PDF. including the key DD Form 214, Discharge Papers and Separation Documents that will list all ships and stations he was attached to, as well as what service medals including campaign stars he earned.
  22. Guess I didn't review this very well... title should be "N-1" jacket, not "NX-1"
  23. UPDATE: I got a friend of mine and he found all sorts of stuff!!
