Here more QM material, you can see the missing hood better. It has a zipper that shares with the jacket. There are two flaps on the shoulder collar area.

Now getting back ground information on this cloth type is not easy.I have contact many military offices. The only so far that was very helpfull was the QM museum. They send me the entire exercise Yukon" report.

This is a pre test series on the EX-48 clthing system exercise. It took place in Alaska 1947-1948.

In this time the modern cold weather clthing system was born!

Check out Post 32 .

The liner shell is made using Captured GERMAN WW2 parachute silk..................

Now that is odd ...........and a fantastic use of war booty .

Visit My Website

Now it ended up to get that question as well.

Of interest as Craig pointet then out is that the liner has the buttons and not the shell.

In all is a mix of pile liner jacket M-1943,M-1951 jacket(press buttons and cuffs) and M-1948 parka(small pocket on the arm)

the rear. You can also see on the picture before that the liner has two holes for better ventilation, like the M-1950 and M-65 jacket liners. Those are not present on the M-1951 jacket.

Ohhhh my 1400 post ;)

Look here the big button(also used on the pile liner) for securing the detachable hood to the shell on the front.
