kingpanzer Posted January 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2011 I would like to know if this Chennault patch is real or a fantasy item. It is made of felt with machine stitching and it doesn’t glow. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.
JCFalkenbergIII Posted January 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2011 Not sure of the era but its Boy Scout related. I have seen it listed as the Air Scout Claire L. Chennault Squadron Troop 1. Robert

mmerc20 Posted January 30, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 30, 2011 I'm an Eagle Scout and even with the little bit of history I used to read about I never remember anything about the Air Scouts. Sounds like a lot of fun! Mike
Garth Thompson Posted January 30, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 30, 2011 I'm an Eagle Scout and even with the little bit of history I used to read about I never remember anything about the Air Scouts. Sounds like a lot of fun! Mike The Air Scouts were around from 1941 - 1949 in the US. Air Scouts still exist in many countries. Here is a link to a small site with some of their insignia. http://seniorscoutinghistory.org/seniorsco.../airscouts.html Air Scout stuff in quite scarce and collectible. BEAST Posted March 27, 2018 Share #10 Posted March 27, 2018 Interesting organization! How did Air Scouts differ from the Civil Air Patrol?
Garth Thompson Posted March 27, 2018 Share #11 Posted March 27, 2018 Interesting organization! How did Air Scouts differ from the Civil Air Patrol? The Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the US Air Force. Air Scouts were a boy scout organization.

Thanks Garth, I guess I should have asked what is the difference in their missions? I know that during WWII CAP flew rescue missions, what did the Air Scouts do? It seems like they had a version of ground school, but did the Air Scouts have aircraft?
tredhed2 Posted March 28, 2018 Share #13 Posted March 28, 2018 The better question is why is there a discussion about a Boy Scout function?
