M1918 BAR Gas Regulator

any one have any idea as to what this is to - looked up the NSN but it said it was out of service

It almost looks like a gas plug for an M1 or an M1A. Maybe an adjustable one.

It appears to be a Gas Regulator Assembly for the M1918a2 BAR. Its the (3rd) late pattern - which I believe came out in 1955.

I think I got that one wrong, on 2nd look it appears to be the 2nd pattern (1952) version -

Either way - its a BAR Gas Regulator.

I haven't had it apart but you are right it looks more like the second one - are those pics of yours? -- thanks Oldfireguy I know the pic makes it look smaller but I compared it against my M1 already - Pete

Yes, they are my photos - taken on the back porch a couple of summers ago.

The adjustable pattern of regulator (2/3) is the more popular type among shooters as the 1st pattern is "difficult" to adjust without the combination tool. Ohio Ordnance Works exclusively uses the type you have on all their new M1918a3 semi automatic rifles.

The part is worth about $30-40, provided it is serviceable.
