I just recently acquired this fantastic photo album with photos taken by a sailor who was a Fleet Photographer . Included in the album is his 1936 dated Fleet Camera Party ID and his certificate from Sound Motion Picture Technicians School he completed in 1939 . There are a lot more photos in the album than the ones I am showing here , but I think these are the most interesting. In 1937 the USS Lexington took part of the search for Amelia Earhart and he was on board during this time.

The album features examples of the dangers of Carrier aviation including deck crash photos . It also shows some of the fun including shoveling show from the deck.

The owner of this album was also a USS Franklin survivor during WWII .

Enjoy!

Thanks for the great photos. Wonderful find.

The top picture in this post is a twofer. We are viewing "Lady Lex" from directly aft, but in the background, viewed from her starboard quarter, is the U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-3) the Lex's sister ship. You can distinguish which ship is which at this time period because "Sara" carried a black vertical stripe painted on her huge stack(s). Two great ships and proud pieces of Naval Aviation history.

Thanks again for the post.

Hi,

Wow, that is one AMAZING photo album you have there! Do you mind if I ask how you came by it and how much it cost you for it? Simply stunning photos.

No photos of Marines or close ups of rare early EGA's crying.gif:D

Darn. A good friend of mine was part of the ship's Marine guard during that period.

Still an amazing album. :)

It did not come from Ebay ! A local guy had it for a few years and wanted to keep it, but I made him an offer he could not refuse :)
