JKrebs21 Posted August 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2007 I picked these two photos up at an antique mall and wanted to see if any one could id a time period. I firgure they are WW2 or Korea. Also thought I would share them here. The first photo is of 7 soldiers. If i am correct the man in the front center is a sergeant. it looks as though they all have M-1 carbines. It appears the only gear they have is a 1936 belt with on ammo pouch and a pack w/shoulder strap. Two patches are visible but i know nothing about them. Can anyonw ID them? Second looks to be of some camp in winter. Enjoy
militariacollector Posted August 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2007 The first picture is WWII-era. If you look closely at the carbines, they are all missing the bayonet lug which suggests they are WWII issue. As far as I know, carbines in possession of the US Army were upgraded very late and post-war. The guy in the front center is a Staff-Sergeant and the guy behind him looks to be a Technician 5th Grade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army_enlisted_rank_insignia_of_World_War_II). Hope this helps.
cpatrick Posted November 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 27, 2007 Also, these soldiers are wearing the low cut ankle boot with gaiters. (Leggings) By Korea, the M43 double buckle boot was in wide use in the field. I agree - both pics appear to be WWII. Chris
