Panama Rent Riots 1925

I am finding the history of the US Army from 1919 to 1941 very interesting as I learn more about the various activities the US Army was involved in. From the battle of Ciudad Juarez in 1919 to the Bonus Expeditionary Force in 1932, the US Army was involved in several police actions. I was at the Mansfield Ohio Civil War Show and found this stack of photos from the 33rd Infantry taken in Panama. In the stack were these four photos of the 33rd Infantry patroling the streets of Panama City. The riots were started over rents in Panama City outside of the Canal Zone and since the Panamanian Government did not have military, 600 US troops patroled the streets to restore order. A few things I like from the photos are the wool shirts and cotton pants, helmets on the soldiers patroling, campaign hats on some of the officers and the wire section, and the RL-16 with the wire section. If anyone has any information about the Rent Riots, I would appreciate it.

Ian

Ian,

Thanks for sharing those pictures with us. They are very good. You can almost feel the tension in the streets! And you are right; lots of history there between the two Wars. In addition to Panama, there was Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, etc.
