458th A-2 opinions

I just listed what I thought was an outstanding..rare Painted A-2 but oddly enough it did very poorly on Ebay. I'm looking for opinions as it appears authentic in every way, and came directly from the vets son. Any thoughts?

I did look at your flight jacket, looked good to me but I am by no means an expert. Someone did tell me that the prices for these have declined lately. Is this true? If you can afford to keep it. The price can only go up.

The "soiled" liner may be a turn-off to some collectors as well...at that price point anyway...just my 2 cents worth...no offense meant.

My two cents, and I sell stuff on ebay all the time, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Perhaps your price point is too high? I also sell Real Estate and this stuff happens all the time. I person lists their house for what they think its worth and inevitably spend the next several months lowering their price until they get a sale or decide they don't want to sell for such a low price.

What a great A-2. My personal belief it is just not the best time of the year to sell higher end collectiles, on Ebay. The summer months are usually slower. At any decent militaria show, this jacket would sell for your buy-it-now.

Not only are summer months slower in general, but jackets in particular don't sell as well during hot weather. I realize it's sacrilege to us collectors, but a lot of the guys who drop big bucks on jackets do so to wear them.

Thanks for the thoughts and opinions. I've been selling aviation related memorabilia including A-2's for quite some time and this one really threw me. It looks 10 times better in person than in the pics and really felt that it was worth at least 2500-3000. The original seller had listed it with a 6000 buy it now which I thought was off but I couldn't fathom that the jacket would end at less than 2K. In any case I may hang on to this one.

I agree that the issue is more likely related to the summer doldrums. I usually stop all my selling on Ebay between July and August as too many people are away on vacation.
