Greg..Obviuosly 77th Infantry by the shoulder patch....but what exactly was the story behind the Lost Battalion Please ?

I had a Great Great Uncle who was a cook at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan. I have no idea what kind of service he saw. I have three good photos of him. One is in cooks garb at Fort Custer. One shows him missing an index finger. These pictures were found in an old photo album my Grandmother compiled.

These two are great! How old was he on 1917? Maybe he saw service in Span-AM?
