disneydave Posted August 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2007 From my collection, the original pencil art for the USS Anthedon, a submarine tender that saw action in the South Pacific. This particular design was created by Disney artist Hank Porter in mid-1945. The above eight-page newsletter was published for Anthedon's crew in September 1945. A story in this edition of the newsletter reported Walt Disney: "Heard that the USS Anthedon had been affectionately called the 'Green Hornet,' because of the green and black camouflage she used to wear. So, Walt Disney put the idea to work and the design for our cover resulted." During her course of duty, Anthedon performed 34 complete submarine refits, 18 partial refits or voyage repairs and 707 torpedo overhauls. I love finding the original art and then the hunt to find related items to complete the display.
