Can anyone tell me more about the USMC dogtag with the following info:

'Name'*

L. JAC.

4501412

PROT.

BL. GR. 0

The *Name has been left out for privacy reasons...

I believe it could have been issued to a Dutch volunteer who trained with the USMC in 1945.....

What does the Serial Number tell us? I assume the Prot stands for the religion..

What does the BL.GR.0 mean?

Thanks,

JOhan

Hi Johan,

That service number is far too large in range to be a WW2 or even Korean War USMC number but you may be right on the Dutch Marine angle. BL. GR. O means he was blood type O. Good luck on this one.

Cheers,

Jeremiah

Service number is way too large. I was given 23xxxxx in the Summer of '67.

Here's a pic of a typical wartime USMC dogtag. Appears to be brass plated steel. Early ones had thumbprint on reverse side
