88thcollector Posted August 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2007 Hi, I just returned from a buying trip and saw a couple of nice things but not what I am interested in. There was a nice HBT coveralls in the Shrewsbury Antique Market (Shrewsbury, PA) with great penwork decoration on the back with "ALASKA" over a polar bear, stars, etc. It is very well done. The owners name was on the attached belt in large letters. I could not find a date or QM label. The tag said it was WW2 aircrew so maybe the dealer has provenance. The buckle was the dark colored bronze. The tag price was $65 which seems reasonable to me. The condition was excellent and likely unworn. There is also a nice WW1 enlisted medical tunic with a nice wool first army patcg with the red and white colors between the legs. I think it was $235.00. The phone number is : 717-235-6637 if you are interested. they will ship it. There is a great unit history in another mall in VA for the JOLLY ROGERS BOMB GROUP, Southwest Pacific, 1942 - 1944. It looked great with risque cartoons and naked island girls. it was $335 but let me know and I will find their phone #. Steve
Bob Hudson Posted August 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2007 I picked up a bunch of EGA's (Marine Corps emblems) real cheap when I stopped in there during a visit to Pennsylvania this past April. The Shrewsbury Antique Center is just off I-95 for those of you heading up and down the East Coast. They have an interesting militaria section and it's worth a visit even if you don't buy anything. As for the HBT coveralls: well my experience is that antique stores mark every military as "WWII". But if it's HBT it probably is WWII. The coveralls were first issued for mechanics and armored crews. There's an article about them here: http://www.olive-drab.com/od_soldiers_clot...2_coveralls.php Hi, I just returned from a buying trip and saw a couple of nice things but not what I am interested in.
